Junior Katherine Germann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown) recorded the sixth-best time in Valparaiso University women’s cross country history as the Valpo men’s and women’s teams competed in the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday afternoon.
After moving into the top-10 in program history in the 8K at the Bradley Intercollegiate two weeks ago, redshirt junior Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./University) topped himself on Saturday, breaking Valpo’s 8K record which has stood for 17 years as the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in their third meet of the season at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams had their first road trip of the 2018-19 season on Friday as they traveled to Peoria, Ill. to compete in the Bradley Intercollegiate. The men were highlighted by a pair of Top 10 finishes, including a 10th-place finish by freshman Ignacio Veloz-Bonilla (San Juan, P.R./American Military Academy) and a fifth-place finish by redshirt junior Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./University). In the women’s race, Valpo was led by junior Katherine Germann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown), who finished 10th overall, as well as freshman Sarah Messerschmidt (Tower Lakes, Ill./Barrington), who finished 19th on the evening.
The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams began their 2018 campaign by hosting the 30th annual Crusader Open at Sunset Hills Farm on Friday. A pair of Crusaders highlighted the Top 15 in both races.
The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams finished their 2017 seasons on Friday afternoon at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The men finished 24th and the women came in 30th. Both squads defeated Missouri Valley Conference foe Evansville and the men also bested Green Bay. Seniors Sidney Noble and Kim Heiny led the charge for the Crusaders.
