A trip to the championship match of the Flight D draw is in store for Valparaiso University men’s tennis redshirt junior Brian Pecyna (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Homeschooled) after he put together a pair of impressive wins on Saturday at the Purdue Fall Invitational to improve to 3-0 in the tournament. Pecyna is at the forefront of a plethora of successful Valpo players after another solid day in West Lafayette.

How It Happened

  • Pecyna punched his ticket to a championship match in Flight D by virtue of a dramatic 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 win over Cleveland State’s Raul Teichmann in Saturday’s semifinal. That came after he topped Toledo’s Thawin Suksathaporn 6-1, 6-4. Pecyna will play Butler’s Ryan Roegner on Sunday.
  • Junior Brandon Ancona (Belvidere, Ill. / Rockford Christian) bounced back after dropping his first match on Friday by winning both of his remaining matches in Flight A. He topped Butler’s Michael Dickson 6-2, 6-4 before coming from behind to register a three-set win over Ball State’s Marko Guzina 4-6, 6-2, 10-6.
  • Daniel Langston (Ponca City, Okla. / Ponca City) followed a similar path to Ancona this weekend, rebounding from a first-round loss with a pair of consolation victories. Competing in Flight C, Langston took his match with Brad Luetschwager of IUPUI in straight sets (6-3, 6-0) before topping Wright State’s Fernando Nardelli 6-2, 6-3 to round out his weekend.
  • Kweisi Kenyatte (Detroit, Mich. / East English Village Preparatory) played a dramatic three-set match with Agustin Gascia of Cardinal Stritch in a Flight A quarterfinal, but Gascia squeaked out a 3-6, 6-3, 15-13 win over the Valpo sophomore. Kenyatte finished out the weekend with a quality winning, topping Purdue's Julio Mateo 3-6, 6-1, 10-7
  • Franklin Brozovich (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over IUPUI’s Eric Hollingsworth in a Flight E consolation match.
