The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams competed in their first away meet of the 2018-19 season on Saturday afternoon at the University of Northern Iowa. Valpo squared off against the Panthers, along with Western Illinois and South Dakota State. Senior Dylan Kirar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) was the top swimmer on the afternoon for Valpo, taking home first in the 1000-free.
The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams succumbed to Green Bay in their inaugural meet of the 2018-19 season at the ARC Pool Saturday afternoon. There were many positive takeaways for each team, however, as the women’s team took home first in three events, while the men won two. Junior Paige Wright (Surprise, Ariz./Paradise Honors) led the way with two individual wins.
A quartet of Valparaiso University student-athletes were recognized on Thursday as the Summit League unveiled its 2018 Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence. Two athletes from each of Valpo’s sports that participate in the conference – men’s tennis and men’s swimming – received the high academic honor.

The Valparaiso University swimming teams wrapped up their season Saturday at their respective conference championships. The men put three athletes in A-finals of the Summit League Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D., while the women had two swimmers in C-finals of the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Iowa City, Iowa. Junior Dylan Kirar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) led the way with a fourth-place finish in the grueling mile event for the men. On the women’s side, sophomore Tara Lawson (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) secured the second-best time in Valpo history in the 200-back.

Junior Dylan Kirar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) and sophomore Brendon Johnson (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) led the way for the men by placing in the A-finals of the 400-individual medley at the Summit League Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D. For the women, sophomore Paige Wright (Surprise, Ariz./Paradise Honors) made the C-finals in two events at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Iowa City, Iowa.
