Sunday morning saw the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams competing in the Butler Invitational, their last tune up before league championships begin in February. The women finished in 10th position, while the men finished in eighth place as a number of swimmers posted season-best times on the second day of back-to-back competitions.
Saturday afternoon, the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams took on Eastern Illinois in their final dual meet of the 2018-19 season. The women fell by a score of 191-67, while the men fell by a score of 170-92 despite strong performances by junior Erica Martins (Hartland, Wis./Lake County Lutheran) on the women’s side and freshman Billy Bennett (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and senior Dylan Kirar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) for the men.
Friday evening saw the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams take on Rose-Hulman in the final home meet of the 2018-2019 season. On the women’s side, freshman Isabel Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and junior Paige Wright (Surprise, Ariz./Paradise Honors) took center stage, earning two first-place finishes apiece to lead Valpo to a 125-62 victory, while the men’s team fell 159-102.
Valpo freshman Isabel Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) continued her tremendous first season in the Brown and Gold, lowering her program record in the 100 back, as the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams wrapped up the 2018 Phoenix Fall Classic on Sunday, placing fifth and fourth – respectively – out of the 11 competing schools. Freshmen Billy Bennett (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and Dominic May (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), as well as junior Erica Martins (Hartland, Wis./Lake County Lutheran), each had solid Sunday efforts as well, continuing where the team left off yesterday as they found their way into Valpo’s record books.
